Amber James is a marketing, communications, and events specialist located in Chicago. Originally from Arizona, she spent eight years in Virginia and the Washington D.C. area before making the move to the midwest in 2024. She received her BFA in Classical Acting from Southern Utah University and her MFA in Shakespeare and Performance from Mary Baldwin University.
Currently, she is the Events and Programs Manager for the Journalism Education Association, where she oversees large-scale event planning and manages marketing and communications for a wide variety of programming designed for journalism teachers and their students. Before that, she spent five years on the marketing team for the American Shakespeare Center, where she cultivated exponential audience growth through innovative digital marketing, social media, and branding strategies. She also spent over two years as a Sales Manager for PSAV, now Encore, collaborating with clients to design and execute professional events at high-profile hotel locations in and around Washington D.C. Additionally, Amber has over a decade of experience as a professional theatre practitioner with acting and directing credits from all over the country. When not hard at work, she enjoys traveling, reading fiction, attending concerts, visiting new restaurants, and spending time outdoors with her dog, Archie, and husband, Colton.
